Micaela is an upholsterer, upcycler, and interior designer from South East London. Micaela first appeared on our screens showcasing her upholstery prowess in Flipping Profit and Junk Yard Rescue, both for BBC. In 2021 we saw that her talents stretched to far more than just upholstery when she reached the semi-finals of Interior Design Masters with Alan Carr on BBC Two.
Since then, Micaela has featured on Money for Nothing (BBC), Alan Titchmarsh’s Love Your Weekend (ITV) and has been part of the team of expert makers for three series of The Woodland Workshop (Discovery+). Micaela then went on to be named the first ever black interior designer on the iconic series Changing Rooms, when she joined the team on the Channel 4 reboot.
Before turning her hands to upholstery, Micaela spent many years working in the luxury travel industry, visiting over 250 luxury boutique hotels for Mr & Mrs Smith, a luxury travel website. She co-founded Studio Janettie, creating bespoke furniture and homeware pieces and is passionate about promoting and uniting independent businesses run by women.
Her love of fashion, homeware, travel and crafting has seen her work with numerous brands on successful campaigns including Argos, Boden, Dulux, M&S, Oliver Bonas, Rightmove, Uniqlo and William Morris.
Micaela’s online upholstery course with Create Academy launched in September 2022 and is still available online inspiring people to create beautiful, upholstered pieces for their homes. Her debut book, Modern Upholstery, was published by Hardie Grant in 2024.
