Lynne and I enjoy doing
many things together. We like hiking and getting outdoors together. So,
the first day of spring this year (2004) we packed a couple of
sandwiches and hiked 11 miles (and about 2200 feet in elevation
gained and lost) in the Columbia Gorge.
We like traveling and exploring places on- and off- the beaten path. So
last summer we
went to Hawaii, played in the surf, went shopping on the
Kona coast, and hiked out (as dozens of other people did) to see the
lava flow into the ocean at
dawn and dusk,
but also hiked 2+ miles up a
stream, fording water up to our necks, to see a remote waterfall that
precious few others have.
Aside from hiking, we're also fitness buffs, and often meet at the
gym for weight training. (Naturally I move more weight than Lynne does: Lynne bench
presses 70lbs ten times where I press 185!)
Lynne and I like doing home-improvement
projects. Some are more collaborative efforts,
like the gas-insert fireplace we installed in the family room; other
times one of us mostly just stands back to watch. Lynne
laid the meandering brick paver pathway in our backyard
on her own.
(Though we shared the heavy hauling work and I ran the plate compactor.)
I built out 700+ square foot back deck. (Lynne
helped by digging most of the post-holes, bless her.
We should have
rented a post hole digger!)
And there are many other things we enjoy doing together. Dinner and a
night out at the theater. Dancing (waltzes to line dances to good-'ol-rock-n-roll).
A glass of wine and a video. And a hundred other things . . . Of course
that hot tub on the deck looks very inviting when we're done hiking, weight lifting,
building home projects, and dancing the night away. When the night sky
is clear we like to soak and talk or sit quietly watch the
stars together.
